post office mortgages
Discussion
anyone have any thoughts or experiences with post office mortgages (i had no idea they did them) I am looking to get a part interest only and part repayment mortgage.
The post office calculator suggests they they can provide this, my bank (first direct) were a bit sniffy at the idea.
Maybe I need to chat to Sarnie!

The key is how you to intend to repay the interest only element........Happy to chat! The post office calculator suggests they they can provide this, my bank (first direct) were a bit sniffy at the idea.

Why not just get the 1stD offset interest-only mortgage and overpay whatever you were planning to as the "repayment" element of your hybrid mortgage? I don't know what the rules are now but on my (offset) one I believe that there is no limit to the level of repayment - and even if there was, one could keep any surplus in an offset deposit account which would achieve the same end.
