Santander - Cheeky gits
Discussion
I've got an ISA with Santander, it's been sat idle for a several years with a very small balance (I shifted to saving elsewhere with more competitive rates). Just had a letter from them saying that they plan to close the account as it appears that I no longer need it. If I want to keep it, I should pay some money in asap. Otherwise they will close it down on the date given. If I'm happy with this, then I don't need to do anything, they'll automatically close it, and they won't send me any further letters.
Fair enough, but it goes on to say that any funds left in the account (and potentially interest due), will be donated to the charity of of their choice! So if this letter hadn't reached me (lost in the post etc), I'd have no warning of this, and wouldn't have heard any more about it. I wonder how many other people are affected, and what their threshold is for deciding to automatically donate it to charity. Admittedly I only have a tiny amount of funds in the account, and I'd like to hope that anyone with anything significant sat dormant isn't going to loose it without realising.
