I'm a contractor (accounting) - I have a relatively small monthly personal pension payment that I have been making since I started work in 1988 and now would/should like to pay more in. Say £500 per month extra initially.

I have my own limited company, take minimum salary, top up with dividends.

I briefly looked into SIPPS but with my luck/judgement in previous share dabblings, I should probably steer clear.

- should I just pay more into my existing personal pension via my limited company or setup something additional? Does it matter?
- would a stakeholder pension scheme through my company be a decent option?
- would like to keep fees etc to a minimum if possible

Thanks in advance!

Personally, I have the Co pay additional single contributions to existing scheme as and when funds allow, but if your company's income is fairly stable would have thought it best for you to explore making Employer contributions by DD.

Of course, this is predicated on your existing scheme being good value for money.

Now THAT question could be a complete minefield! eek

I'm a contractor and get my limited company to pay additional single premiums into my SIPP as and when funds allow, to minimise tax the i and my company pay.

If I were you, I would find out what charges and commission you're paying on your current personal pension and comparing that to the other options that you mention.

I've just been through this, contractor, had a personal pension and a stakeholder. I've transferred everything into a SIPP which I ay into each month and get the tax relief and my company pays I to each month and gets the crop tax relief.

If you're unsure on what to invest in within the sipp There's a million managed funds out there with reasonable charges.
