I have an employee who is leaving on the last day of the tax year.
Therefore I am planning to give him just the P60 and not include them in the RTI system for 2017-18. Is this correct or do I have to issue a P45 for 2016-17 as well?

Yes - P45 required.

If the P45 is dated 5 April 2017, the employee will automatically be gone from your payroll system from 6 April 2017 on.

A P45 is compulsory.
