I am about to VT my car which is currently on a PCP deal.

I am past my 50% point and below mileage so ok on that front. But the car has one scratch that will get picked up with fair wear and tear. I have had a quote from chipsaway.co.uk to have the rear bumper resprayed will cost 180 inc vat. I really don't know whether to get it done and risk a bad job or mismatch in paint or just sit on it and take the hit when it goes back?

all help would be appreciated, thanks!

OP - depends on the manufacturer sometimes. VAG appear to be more lenient with the companies they use for inspection, however heard that Mercedes and BMW can be quite harsh.

If the scratch is very noticeable, I would get it done, rather than being levied with a charge which my not be market value.. To be honest I would probably only use chips-away firms for this very occasion.

We had our Mini assessed and collected last week and they found a 4 inch scratch on the tailgate. The price they attached to this was £40. A few other little knocks and dings were £16 each.

I dont think it matters on a VT, once you have paid more than 50% thats it

BMW were spot on with ours, it was BCA who collected and do the evaluation all very fair.

50% point being halfway through 36/48 payments, or paid back half the total amount?

Thanks for all the advice, I have decided to get the work done, for my own peace of mind.

...and it is 50% of finance paid...

Yes, I see your point. However what happens if you hand it back with a huge 3 foot dent in the door, or the bumper hanging off. I am sure there is some form of recourse.. This for me is a grey area..

I have VT'd cars in the past, however always ensured they look in reasonable condition.
