Am looking to move my investments (SIPP and ISA) from HL to benefit from lower fees elsewhere.

To save me trawling through other providers, has anyone else done this/got any recommendations for alternative platforms.

Will be investing predominantly in funds (unit and investment trusts and possibly ETFs).

I use Fidelity, but via Cavendish, as for some reason it is cheaper than going direct through Fidelity...

If you just stick to shares, investment trusts and ETFs, platform charge is only £200/year. I do this.

What value/size is your portfolio ?

Know one can give you the right answer without knowing more! HL are very good if you have less than 50k in funds (investment funds not shares ) but more than 50k there are cheaper options . ( but then again that may not be the case if you have a 200k portfolio consisting of mainly trackers and shares )

If you have a large portfolio HL will negotiate their fees. I have done this for Mrs BC and myself.

I can't say what their bottom line is on negotiating fees and don't want to quantify my portfolio on an open forum.

It's worth calling them though and asking. That's what I did and they agreed the reduced fees by private message a day or 2 later.

Good luck.

You could also check out Charles Stanley Direct, 0.25% platform fee plus no fees for fund dealing.

I keep meaning to do something about the odds and sods that we have. A friend recommended this, https://www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk because of their low fee base.

Has anyone else here got experience of them?

The problem with some of the cheaper platforms is that there is a restricted number of funds you can buy on them. I have accounts with Hargreaves Lansdown for funds and Halifax for share dealing. Both seem very good.

I found this guide very helpful when thinking of switching. I decided to stay with TD Direct Investing as it's the best for my circumstances.

No, but I am using some of their funds through a different platform and have been meaning to look to see if it is worth switching.

Thanks for all the responses; I can at least now narrow my search a bit. HL may be the best option as the platform and options are very good as has been mentioned but I get the impression they are a bit complacent re fees because they are so popular/don't need to be super competitive to attract/retain investors.
