I wasn’t sure whether to post this here or the travel section so feel free to move it if appropriate mods.

Mrs BC and I have 3 long winter holidays booked (we can as we took early retirement). Sadly my mum has just been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. weeping

I’ve spoken with my travel insurers and started a claim for the trip we have planned and paid for leaving at the end of this month. They require the booking invoices, cancellation invoices and a doctors completed form. So what timescale do they need, if she’s given a life expectancy of say 6 months is that likely to be sufficient?

Anybody have experience of such matters?

Sorry to hear that. The policy wording should give you a good indication of the outcome, but usually it is very likely that your claim will be settled as presumably you need to care for her. Who are you with / who underwrites the policy or who is handling the claim (if different) ?

Thanks for your help.

My insurance is through my bank, Lloyds and underwriten by AXA who are dealing with the claim. So far they seem ok. I just need my mum’s doctor to complete the paperwork which confirms her condition and that it was diagnosed before I made the bookings.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you get it resolved quickly.
I was in a similar situation earlier this year which was resolved successfully.

I would be very surprised if you had any issues providing you're within the T&Cs which sounds very much like you are.

Any advice feel free to email me ; I worked for AXA on this particular scheme for travel. Small world.

You should have no issues.

Wife and I were in Thailand in March and had to cut short when father in law deteriorated. Pancreatic cancer diagnosed January 20th (weeks after we paid final balance). He died March 20th, 2 days after our rapid return. So much for 4-6 months. Insurer covered all our costs for 6 additional flights and reimbursed the 11 (IIRC) days unused.

I appreciate your circumstances are different but bear with them as they go through their process.

Make the most of the time she has left. You don't get it back.

Thought I would update this. As you said would happen AXA were fine, no issues at all. One of the trips has been paid out and another approved for payment.

I was nervous due to trouble with a legitimate claim many years ago when Mrs BC’s mum died unexpectedly while we were on holiday. I had bought a cheap annual policy and the bar stewards tried every angle to avoid payment.

That’s all good but mother not good at all. frown

Thanks for the help guys.
