I have a free credit score thingy with Barclays which just shows a score from Experian.

I just signed up to Noddle and checked my full report. Noddle shows as 200 points less than Experian.

Now nothing has changed. At all. No new lines of credit, no late payments etc. Nothing at all.

I do not have a single late payment for anything in the last 12 months but what I do have is a ton of searches against my name for car insurance marked as "general check" for my recent renewal.

Do they get their score from the same place?

Having just looked, Noddle only report up to 710 so this may be why.

Each of the main credit agencies uses a different scoring system.

The level of search used for car insurance quotes doesn't impact your rating, even though it generates alot of traffic.

Scores mean absolutely nothing - it's your data that matters when applying for credit.

In what respect?

It’s not look great as I have a car on PCP that goes back in december but shows the total amount of the loan against my name which is understandable but not ideal.

credit scores are worthless and a made up number. Equifax, Call Credit and Experian do not share their "scores" with anyone. The only person who gets to see it is you.

Banks etc have their own lending criteria that has zero to do with the scores from the above. All that is important is the actual data held with the above.

The data is things like how many credit applications you have made in a time period, how much debt you have, how much of your available credit you're using, how many credit accounts you have etc, ccj's, bankruptcies and the like.

If it makes you feel any better, if you sign up with AngryDog Credit Scoring Inc, as an introductory offer I will give you a credit score of 1000. You cannot even get that wit Experian.

That's not quite true. We get an experian score which we use. (insurance)

It's definitely correct that lenders will use the data and score it how they want.

Which is really odd as lenders in the US as an example state upfront what as a minimum your score needs to be with whatever agency to get access X offer

I’ve experienced this a couple of times with house and vehicle buying in Vegas and New York

I can see that sort of assessment starting to creep over here too in the not too distant future - helps with transparency as wel
