I have 10k in cash ISA doing nothing at all. I have £300 a month.

I want to move to s&s isa, I have done a tiny amount of research and think a Vanguard life strategy 80:20 would be the right investment.

Should I:

a) open the vanguard and transfer my cash isa so pile all the money in at once (now is good time? I hear markets are low?), then drip feed £300/mo
b) do something else with my 10k and drip feed vanguard with £300 a month

if b) where should I stick the 10k? i understand sticking the whole lot in s&s at once is perhaps not the best idea, better to drip feed.... but it is in an ISA and needs transferring away from 1%....

c) something else entirely.

I'd love to know lots about investing but have little spare time for it, hence choosing life strategy to spread my bets.

I do exactly what you suggest with the 80:20.

This week was a bad week, but historically it's been fairly tolerant to market changes, with a good overall return.

For a 'no brainer', I think it's still a good choice.

I would always drip feed a big lump.
Trying to time the market is a mugs game. Yes, today may be the low.....but in a month, it may be lower!!
IMHO!

when I transferred mine, it wasn't gaining any interest but was held as cash that I could invest more selectively/slowly.

Ah so you transferring it to a holding account that ws part of the isa and dripped it in?

Who did you use? cavendish / Alliance trust?

I could do that, save my £300 elsewhere, then transfer the 10k to isa holding account, £1k a month into vanguard, then continue £1k a month from my monthly saving and then down to £300 a month from my wage after 14 months or so.

It's currently in limbo between accounts, so I wouldn't rely on this just yet.

However, I'm transferring to HL. When you complete the transfer form you can specify into which stocks you want to invest the money. Alternatively, you can select not to invest them immediately (I can't remember the terminonology they use, or find the form).

I'll report back when I've discovered if this has worked as expected, or whether I've completely misunderstood ;-)

Probably cheapest to use vanguard directly rather than playing HL?

I'm in a similar position - how does the Vanguard setup differ from something like fiver-a-day? What are the tax implications of this? Or if someone could point me in the right direction of where to get the info I'd be much obliged!
I used to understand savings, etc., but somehow down the line I missed some changes and now I'm a bit lost...
