What would you do?

In the last round of investment, I invested the maximum of 2000 euros in Revolut. These shares are now available to sell in the secondary market and valued by Seeders at 8408 euros since purchased in 21 August 2017. Would you sell or keep hold?

Having just been burned with a large drop on a (listed) company I own shares in I'd be inclined to take some profit... sell 2000 worth and have a free ride with the rest.

Thats like saying you saw a car crash the other day so wont travel by road, with no consideration to the road, car or driver.

I think you've done really well to get in earlyish. Im rather envious. Dont sell them, you've done the hard bit already.

I'd keep them.

As a Revolut user it's a superb concept with the simplicity to match. Can only see it gaining in popularity. I must if told a load of people about it since I found out about it at the start of the year.

Not really... it's more like being in a car crash the other day and realising I should pay more attention to the state of the road, car and driver as I might have avoided the accident.

I can understand the temptation of letting a good thing run, but this should be balanced against the risk involved. At the moment we have a company valuation of $1.7bn that turned over around $3m in their last results. It's an interesting product/platform but there is a long way to go as an investment.

Always this....

You have made money, so take a minimum of the investment out and invest elsewhere, if they go up x2 again its not that you have lost 4k but you have still gained 12k.

Would rather have cash in several investments and if one tanks the others make up for it.

How and where did you get access to buy Revolut shares? As a Revolut user and also predicting future exponential growth, I would have snapped these up!

They were on Seedrs for the round last year.

Sorry to boast but I'm feeling very smug - on their initial Crowdcube raise I invested around 2k for 1180 shares. On secondary they're now worth circa 35k. One of my better investments as this one has actually made money (so far...)!

I’d wager for every Revolut on Seedrs there’s been many more busts.

Although if SEIS eligible it’s not all bad.

To give an update... I've decided to put all my Series B shares onto the secondary market (approx 4k worth) and another 8k worth of my series A shares to keep under the CGT allowance for this year.

This would leave me with around 29k still in Revolut. I'm in two minds as to whether to sell down another 4k so I have 13k-ish profit banked + my initial investment back.

I'm going to place this money into an ISA with FundingCircle.

Any thoughts?

Depends on how much confidence you have in the future success of Revolut. Like you say, its tempting to take profits and put it somewhere safer, like a fund inside your ISA. Or you ride it out in the hope of further profits. You could always ride it out and put a sensible stop loss in place to preserve profits if it does drop significantly.....

Thanks - it's not listed so unfortunately no stop available!

That 250m they just raised is likely going to keep them rumbling along for a few years, so no realistic chance of an exit soon. So seems prudent to sell some down now

Yes. Avoid Funding Circle. Two years ago I sold a property and parked a load of cash among several P2P lenders. Most of the FC growth was wiped out by bad debt and fees (I didn't lose the sum invested). Every other P2P lender was fine. (ie Lending Works and Zopa).

BTW - I'm also chuffed my £1k in Revolut has been the best investment I've ever made (x400 per cent in a year).

I'm staying on for the ride. I'm betting they'll be a takeover target for one of the global banking groups within five years. Their tech, ability to innovate, and speed to implement is light years ahead of the dinosaurs.

Kicking myself I didn't sign up for the Premium level which would have allowed a £2k investment,.

The revaluation on Seedrs has come through and secondary market open... anyone who bought these taking some/all profit now? Would have been good to be in the first Crowdcube funding round when it was valued at £42m yikes
