Hi all - first time on the finance forum so apologies for what may appear like a dumb question....

Who is the best person to go to for tax advise and is it worth it? My finances are relatively straightforward - I am PAYE and i have a few buy to let properties (all generally with decent yields) but with the new tax rules on BTL, i was thinking whether it was worth talking to someone about structuring them better.........would that person be an accountant (tax specialist if I can find one or do they all generally know the tax rules and dare I say ...loop holes) or do i talk to an IFA - they sort out everything (taxes, where to invest and future planing etc)...

On the latter two points, I am struggling to see where they can provide any benefit, I generally know where to put my money & although i do have a few pensions (from moving around a little), I view them as a nice top up rather than anything i rely on - apologies if i caused offence to any IFAs out there....

I am basically a little lost......who do I see??

Accountant. Not only are they more boned up on taxation than an IFA, they work on an hourly rate so won't swipe 1% of your wealth every year for doing, er, well, nobody knows!

Definitely an accountant.

If your question was what assets to invest in then an IFA would have been the right person. As you’ve already made that decision by buying property he advice you need is about tax-efficiency. Ergo Accountant.

I thought accountants weren’t allowed to give pension advice in the normal course of events.

I think you more specifically want advice from a tax accountant and not one who just does company accounts and the like.

Look for an accounting company, who deal in all types of accounting. Not just an individual.

You could be doing things inefficienctly and could find you are paying too much out when you could claim some back. So it’s definately worth it... maybe another holiday?
