Hello..

I'm sure this has been covered a million times before but, has anybody switched to one of the small energy suppliers and not had any hassle.

I'm looking to move from e-on and some companies are saying I can save c£500 a year. I don't want to move and then have a load of hassle.

The one I have seen is Enstoga energy.

Thanks

I'm with Iresa.

They are small, cheap and customer support is rubbish to non-existant.

However, as long as the gas and electricity is supplied (it is) and you don't leave a big balance with them in case they go bang, how often do you really need to use customer service?

Had a some minor hassle when setting up, their website can be unreliable. However even at the renewal their rates were very cheap where usually you need to change at the end of the first year.

If the saving is really hundreds then a gamble worth taking as long as you go in with your eyes open. Most likely issue is not getting balance back in a timely manner at the end of the contract.

I use bulb now, great customer service and £50 free when you sign up using a referral code

Mine is https://bulb.co.uk/refer/nicholasw8736

They are a variable tariff but still much cheaper

Avoid ones with bad customer service, when I moved house green star energy where providing the energy, I switched 1 week later and they some how think I used £137 worth of gas and electricity in July in 7 days!

I think I will give them a try based on reviews.

I found them through Which? too so it gives me a bit more confidence than the other comparisons.

I paid £1600 in gas/electric last year so that is almost a third savings.

My wife switches our energy supplier more often than I change my socks, and the only ones we've had any problems with are the big boys. Wouldn't go anywhere near NPower or Scottish Power ever again, but we've never had any issue with any of the cheapy no-name suppliers we've used.

I switched to oneselect about a month ago. Switch went smoothly. Paid a month up front as such, so will need to keep an eye on that when I get a bill. Massive difference in price to the "big 6"

Be careful how long the new deal lasts for. I switched a year ago to EON, they made me have a smart meter and now they've just written to me saying that deal is over and i've got to either:

A. Not do anything and the tariff will go up a fair bit.
B. Sign up for another year at a higher rate, but less than A.
C. Go elsewhere.

At least they've warned me, but I really can't stand all this arsing about.

We’re with Octopus. Not the rock bottom cheapest but fantastic customer service.

I'm with Together energy. Cheap for a reason. Billing rubbish. No app. Website developed by a 12 year old. Maybe 10.
But cheap.
I was about to switch but may as well see it out to avoid exit fee & cheap!

I'm with Iresa and had no problems, although I believe they have and sold out because their finances were hit by the beast from the east and they went too low with pricing.

They pay interest on overpayments too which I haven't seen elsewhere, so it's a few pennies cashback in a way every month.

Not had to use the customer service, and hope not too by the reviews they get on this.

With Ovo on a 2 year fix. Best rates I could find and used them in the past.

This thread is useful in giving confidence to those that are unsure of jumping from the big 6, soon to be the big 5 when SSE and NPower merge. These companies are generally the worst offenders vis a vis price and customer service.

It's a beautiful day when you get a letter saying your credit balance is too high so they're reducing the DD from £37 to £12. smile
