Joint Mortgage
Discussion
Wasn't quite sure on where to put this but currently going through the steps of getting a mortgage with the Mrs although we seem to have hit a bit of a road block when it comes to whether we put down as joint tennants or tennants in common.
She is contributing a few grand extra towards the depost but as we have done whilst renting I would cover the household bills whilst she does the food. Other items like car repairs are sorted on the fly.
It is quite a sizeable value house & the Mrs is leaning towards joint tennants as she sees it all as one pool of money. However I am more inclined to go with tennants in common as I will be paying the share & I want to cover my back just in case the worst was to happen & given how things get split (mostly favoured towards her) even if she did save I doubt I'd be entitled to any that.
We have had some big arguments recently & although nothing to cause a stir over but it makes me uncomfortable that if the worst was to occur we may not stay as nice as we think, hence wanting to cover myself.
So my question is, does anybouy have any options that we can move forward whilst both getting satisfied that we are covered?

She's putting in more of the deposit than you? I'd have thought she'd be more keen on T-in-C to protect her greater investment.
I assume despite referring to her as your Mrs, you're not married. You could have a trust deed behind the registered ownership setting out exactly what shares you each expect if it were to be sold.

If the deposit amounts are different you can set up a declaration of trust between two people (I think if the couple aren't married, otherwise it doesn't apply). This will ensure that you're legally covered to get the right percentage of the price of the house back you put in should it ever be sold. I've done this with my GF buying a house last year.
