Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone has any concrete knowledge around the effect of multiple address changes on someone's credit file?

I'm in a situation at the moment where I'm renting and saving up funds to buy my first home, but I'm not quite there yet...Likely 6-12 months away from actually having somewhere to move into.

For this reason, I'm very cautious about my credit file and monitor it very closely. I do, however have a few motivations to move out of my current (Shared) rented accommodation.

So I wondered, if I where to change my address in the next few weeks...Would that have a significant impact on my credit file for say 6 months time when I'm doing a mortgage application?

There may be heightened sensitivity around the scoring as I will be likely doing a 5% mortgage too (Though affordability scoring will be pretty good.)

I'm on the electoral role as I should be and would obviously shift this if I moved again.
However I do have five addresses in the last 5 years (Including current)

Have tried a few lenders but they give very high level generic answers or simply refer me to credit scoring companies who then do the same.

Effect. Could you not speak to an advisor at your bank?

One address change is not likely to have an effect but several address changes over a short period (eg 3 addresses in 2 years) would have some effect. How much of an effect I don’t know but the more addresses in a shorter time the larger the effect will be.

When I split from my ex wife 8 years ago I had about 4 addresses in 3 years and my credit rating took a bit of a hit, to the point where I applied for a loan and had to accept a higher than advertised rate.
