Mrs BC and I travel for around 3-4 months a year so a lot of our spend is not in £’s. We stopped using the Amex Platinum card because of the 3% forex fees. The Lloyds Avios cards have been perfect for us with an Amex card for maximum Avios points and a MasterCard to use when Amex wasn’t accepted.

So to replace I’m thinking:-

BA Amex/Avios card - for maximum Avios points
Lloyds MasterCard - for when Amex is not accepted.
Halifax Clarity for use abroad (no forex fees).

The problem with this is that the bumf for the BA Amex card assumes a £1200 credit limit which is of no use to me. When we book business class long haul flights with perhaps a cruise the cost is several times that limit.

Is there a way of knowing the likely credit limit before making an application?

Any reason you would get a different limit with the BA Amex to that which you have or have had with other Amex's??

I have a BA Amex which has a way way higher limit than you are quoting

I have a BA Amex card. I'm pretty sure that in the website you can adjust your credit limit. In any event, a few years ago I did this by phone.

I believe there is a mistake on the website that states £1200. When I applied it said that and came back with a £12,000 limit. A collegue of mine applied last week and the card was delivered with a £9,000 limit. Unfortunately I don’t think there is a way to find out the limit before you apply.

In addition get someone to refer you, the first years fees are free and you will get ~25,000 avios if you spend £3,000 in 3 months

My current Amex card was issued and administered by Lloyds bank. That’s the card that’s being withdrawn.
