Hope you can help

I’ll get straight to the point, a former minor celebrity from the 80s owes me a not insignificant amount of money, at that time I lent him a few thou to fund a large venture of his, with promises of vast riches and influence as a dividend.

Basically after four or five years of footage and a fair amount of fame and attention, him and his motley crew of misfits basically returned from their jaunts penniless and (dare I say it) a bit liberal.

Short of hammering frozen sausages into his lawn/covering his dog in pink powder paint, does anyone have any advice on a (legal) recourse?

What documentation do you have?

None? you've had it.

Complete - signed by both/all parties? You have a very good case.

Edit.

I should have added - beware the man of straw scenario.

IANAL

You lent him money in the 80s and are only seeking to recover it now? Ignoring the legalities of whether you're statute-barred from recovering it now (you almost certainly are), why have you left it so long?

Shaming him on Popbh may be your best resolution hehe

You need to re read the original post it appears the money was lent 4-5 yrs ago not in the 80's.

The way it's written suggests it was lent back in the 80s, and they had a bit of fame for 4/5 years before fading out of the spotlight. That's the way I read it, I could well be wrong on that.

Even if you go down the legal route has he got the money/assets to pay you back?

If not, you are up the creek without a paddle, more so if you haven't got any documentation.

I believe it's spelt "Crue."

Which member is it?

A few thou and you say he has returned penniless

So unless someone bank family etc will lend him money to pay you then for now it’s pointless.

Why not get him to cut your lawns and wash your car weekly until the sun is paid off at least you’ll get some value/service back for the funds paid.

To be honest I don't think you should have been funding Gary Glitter's tour of Asia.

I'd drop it if I were you.

Thanks for the advice all.

I think getting the money back is in the realms of impossibility, i was just wondering if I had any legal choices for revenge.

It was Willy Fog, by the way so probably hard to track down anyway.

Much obliged.

How much money was involved and do you have documentation? If so, when was this money due to be returned?

Was it a private loan or invested in a company?

There are legal instruments open to you - not least of which the Small Claims Court. But it all depends on the documented terms of the loan.

Legal types may say that you could go for a breach of constructive trust (or similar) without paperwork - but you could spend a fortune chasing that one down.

I would concentrate on inventing and selling new words, more money in that.
