How much will H M take ?
Discussion
Is it you/your brother's only property?
There is generally no tax to be paid on the disposal of your home. There is, however, tax payable on and income/gains made on other properties.
There is also stamp duty to be paid upon any purchase (partial or full) of a property. This is set at a higher level for second (or additional) properties.
Your brother will have his annual CGT allowance to factor in (double if any payment is staggered over this month and next). This should cover any capital gains in full.
You may have a stamp duty cost.
Both taxes, whilst unpleasant, are not large though.
