not sure where you are seeing tax relief in that scenario?

Am I imagining this or is there some (tax?) relief in this scenario...

• Sell BTL
• Invest equity released from sale into current residential habited property (rather than spunking it on cars)
• Therefore reducing current mortgage

Is this the best use of the released finance?

What am I missing scratchchin
Where would there be tax relief?

When you sell the BTL you would be liable for any CGT regardless of how the funds are used. Once the tax is paid you can use the balance to reduce your current residential mortgage.
