Santander: Debit card payment pending, then reversed?
Discussion
I made a payment on Friday via debit card, immediately my ‘available balance’ was updated to reflect the payment on my online banking and it remained this way until today (Tuesday), where is has put my available balance back to what it was previously, as though I never made the payment.
The original payment was successful, I have enough money in the account to cover the payment and I have had no contact from Santander nor the vendor.
Why would this happen?

Are you sure the initial payment went through? Was it chip and pin or online?
If it was online then the likes of SagePay and WorldPay make the request to your bank even if you don't complete the purchase (intentionally or otherwise) its called pre authorisation. We get this quite a bit at work. Dude puts £100 of goods in basket. Puts card details into website but at the very last step does not click "complete purchase" and then sees £100 vanish from their account.
They then call us going mad that "we have their £100"... which we don't. Normally takes 3 days to return to their account, well I say return it never left in the first place but the bank ring fence the funds.
It might be something different in your case but just giving an example of how that kind of thing can happen.

I imagine something similar has probably happened with your example, I guess I'll just have to wait til' tomorrow and wait 30 minutes on hold to find out

I'll also have to get in touch with the vendor and arrange repayment too as I feel bad.
