Had a text from Barclays who I bank with informing me they have identified an issue with my debit card and that a replacement will arrive within 3 days, they go on to say to use the card straight away and my current card will continue working until my new one arrives.
The new card arrived in the post earlier today but i'm baffled as to what the issue could be if I could continue to use the card until the new one arrived!

Any ideas?

(exp date on the card with apparent issue was 2021)

Crazy idea, but you could ring them smile

It could be they've identifed an issue with a batch of cards. I've heard of one example where the private certificate within the card expired a couple of months before the expiry date.

I could have given them a call but didn't want to have to keep asking the person on the other end to repeat what they said or have them keep asking me to repeat what I said, I try to not call Indian call centers unless I really have no other option

I wouldn't ring them because they won't give you a specific answer and the person on the end of the phone probably won't even know or be able to find out the specific reason anyway.

It's a preventative measure. For example, Barclays may have become aware of a data breach at a particular retailer.

I just had this, although not with Barclays.

Nightmare as they blocked my cards, with no notice and without getting me a new card first.

I've had that a couple of times over the past year or so with Barclays, no issue, use the new card when it arrives.
