Hi. I'm hoping someone may have some experience of this.

I formed a partnership during the last financial year, and registered it with HMRC for Self Assessment (I am the nominated partner.)

I filled in the SA400 form and received a Unique Tax Reference number for the partnership.

I don't understand how I now submit the tax return for the partnership online, because, although I have the UTR, they didn't give me an HMRC ("Government Gateway") login for the partnership itself.

Should I have a login for the partnership? Or should I be able to log in to HMRC under my own login, and submit the partership's tax return?

Does anyone know?
Thanks.

Not so sure as I have only ever submitted partnership tax returns using my generic agent's log-in codes (which works for all my clients).

You might be able to use your government gateway code to do this but I expect you will need separate filing codes etc. Check with HMRC. They should be able to tell you.

That's fair enough. (I thought it may well come down to a case of "just call them and ask".)

Thanks.

AIUI you cannot actually file partnership returns online unless you have specialist software.

You could still submit a paper copy the old fashioned way.

Yes you do need to provide a return for the partnership as well as the partners separately. You'll need to apply for a password and then be able to log in to the partnership in the same way as your personal login. However to actually provide a partnership return you will need third party software - I use Andica SA800 partnership software, it's dead simple (basically the same as a paper return) and it only cost about £15 iirc.
