Does anyone have any ideas for a second income?
I currently worked 12 hours shifts, with a 37 hour contract. I work around 14 days a month, nights/days weekdays and weekends. Often find myself bored on weekdays while my mates and girlfriend are in work. I've got a business degree, A levels, and a HNC in mechanical engineering (not fantastic grades though) , and really don't want to go more education for now. So thought about a second job, for extra cash to pay credit cards and take the pressure off a bit, maybe look to invest in property later on. I'm pretty handy with spanners, but hold no qualifications for this. The issue with my shift rota is that I can't commit to every monday/tuesday as my rota doesn't allow.
I don't have a big savings pot to invest in much at the moment.
Ideas so far:
I applied for part time work in a custom car garage, the owner seemed keen, but not heard since.
Thinking about completing my HGV license, and working as a self employed driver.
Same as above but for mobile plant, such as excavators.
Mobile mechanic business.

It's pretty straightforward and doesn't need much to get started - internet access and a bank of £200 or so to get you going.
You can make a chunk of money out of the sign-up offers and probably a few hundred per month from the ongoing offers - some people will claim you can make £2k per month but I'm a little skeptical of that!
In case you don't know, it's not gambling, it's risk free and I've done ok out of it in the past. I still dabble occasionally, but not so much these days because I don't seem to have as much time.

Matched betting is an easy way to get some quick cash. A quick smash and grab effort will get you a grand within a week or so, most of your accounts will be dead by then so it becomes more difficult to sustain just from online bookies, you may need to go offline and into the shops but that becomes more difficult and time consuming.

I was in a similar position a few years ago. I looked at lots of options then settled on window cleaning due to the low start up cost of around £80 for squeegees and buckets. I reinvested into water fed pole and pure water and expanded into six days a month. I’ve since streamlined down to 2/3 very busy days per month keeping just the most profitable customers. It’s surprisingly profitable when run well. I’m now moving on to want more days off so I’m selling but if I wasn’t in the position of wanting more time and no longer needing the money I’d certainly be keeping it.

I started window cleaning as a part time weekend income, it lasted about 5 minutes...now I have 6 vans and some monster jobs! Such a great scaleable business.

Yes the best days of matched betting are over, too many got involved and killed the golden goose. For anyone that hasn't done any form of betting then getting a fresh set of accounts and doing a smash and grab will net you a quick grand or so, after that it is harder work but you can still make beer money from it. I looked at oddschecker only the other day to see what was available and they had listed about £1000 of free bets so just hitting those would conservatively get you £700+.Mr-B said:
