Question on funds transfer from Europe to UK

Hi all,

I hope that someone can advise.
I’ve sold a car to a buyer from the Netherlands and he wants to collect on Friday. I asked for a bank transfer by Swift but my bank tell me that it may take up to two days.
Any of you know if there’s a way to transfer immediately or do you have experience or f selling to a European buyer?

Set up a transferwise account and get him to transfer it into that?

Or are we talking big numbers here, which may make transfer slower?

Thanks for the reply. I’ll look at TransferWise.

It’s 10k so I’d rather do a transfer than deal with cash.

I sold a car to a chap in France. He came over on the Eurostar with around £25k in sterling bank notes already on him. In his bag, in his pockets, in his shoes. He was concerned that if someone nicked his bag then he'd lose it all so spread it around his person!

I picked him up from the station, he viewed the car and when he was happy we both went to my bank. I'd phoned ahead to tell them so they had a room ready for us. They brought out one of their note counting machines and I let them count it all up and satisfy themselves that it was all genuine. They then paid it into my account and showed on my balance immediately. Once I had that we completed the paperwork and off he went.

Obviously that puts all the risk onto the buyer, but from your perspective it's a completely safe transaction.

I do SEPA transfers to my bank in Portugal (different bank to the one I use in the UK) and they generally arrive the same day.
