Held my CC for many years and always the same ‘long number’ across the front.Out of the blue I received. replacement CC, even though I have over two years to run on the old one. Noticed the long number has changed, checked my online account with the Company and they have changed the old number on that as well. No reason offered for the change, of course it’s an inconvenience.Wrote to the. ompany to query the change but has anybody in here experienced a similar situation?
Yes.

You wrote to the company because the card number changed?

We really have reached peak #firstworldproblems.

Well of course, why would they change the number after 15 years? I think the card could be a scam.
Are you going to tell me it’s normal practice to change card numbers at a whim

Something similar happened to me. The new card was contactless, the old one wasn't and still had a year to go before it expired.

They could have found your number on a database of stolen numbers or you may be associated with a company that has been hacked or leaked data so they have changed your number as a precaution.

Thank you, a sensible reply at last! I am not paranoid yet about scams and hackers but I am definitely ultra cautious. My old card had two years to run and was contactless, so it looks like the other part of your explanation is most likely. Thanks again.

Yes, same Company but obviously the card contract is renewed automatically, usual start / end date every three years or so. But same long card number on front of card remained the same

I had the same recently, in august existing card expired and new one issued in the normal way,a month later had message to say that in order to improve security new card would be sent. this duly arrived sporting new long number. It seems to work and my account hasnt been rinsed.

I was slightly suspicious, but noted that my online account sported the new number, but included transaction prior to change, and so it all felt right

I’m not alone then! at least you had a communication with your new card number.

Are you telling us your new card arrived in an envelope with no covering letter? Sounds highly improbable to me.

When my new cards arrive it's always 100% clear who they are from, what they are for and (where appropriate) how to activate them.

I'll lay odds they haven't even changed your PIN number.

To be clear, replacement card arrived together with the usual ‘terms & condition’ information. Absolutely no information regarding the change to my CC long number on front of card. That is the issue I had and what I have required further information and explanation, none of the issues that you raise in your post are relevant, did you read my OP.
Contacted today by Company with explanation which I am satisfied with.

Related to SCA I presume?
