This may sound like a daft question but here goes.

I'm returning some items to a large furniture place tomorrow, amount is just over £700, the balance currently on my credit card having paid a load of recently is only around £500 so there will be a difference of around £200, what happens in this case? I don't really wont to buy a load of stuff for the sake of it.

It's possible i can get a gift card for the difference from the retailer but won't know until tomorrow

Don't be tempted to withdraw the £200 cash with your credit card.

Someone once told me it looks bad on your credit rating.

Always wondered if it was actually true.

Anyone?

The shop will put the £700 back on your card, and you'll have a credit balance on the card of £200. Spend it on what you want, when you want.

Yes you will just have a positive balance on your credit card to then spend as usual, or some providers if you ring will refund that back to your bank account

Apologies if I'm reading you incorrectly but.....

If the £500 debt has been crystallised onto a statement and, say, they are due to take it by DD they will STILL take the £500 regardless of the £700 credit about to be applied.

If the credit comes in before the statement date it can be utilised.
