If I do my own maintenance on BTL properties and require a tool to perform a job, am I able to offset all/part of this against allowable expenses from a tax perspective?

I had a quick look through HMRC guides, but can't find anything specific.

Does the argument change if it was (for example) a screwdriver versus a drill?

Another example, if I bought a can of paint, but only used half, do I claim for the entire can as this was the most appropriate size anticipated for the job?

thanks in advance

Yes, I do, are you/we not after all saving/earning HMRC 20/40% tax by carrying out repairs ourselves, rather than employing contractors etc.
