Buy index with ltd company
Discussion
Ok to clarify, the issue is that most platforms do not seem to have an option to create an account in the name of a Ltd company, only personal name accounts. Hargreaves Lansdowne will allow it but it is currently a slow process with them, paper based, so I wanted to see if anyone knew of any other platforms that allow accounts to be set up in the name of a Ltd company and can offer fast account set up.
Looking to invest a modest 6-figure sum and hold for the long term.

Regardless of the practicalities, I have concerns with someone seemingly prepared to risk 'a modest 6 figure sum', when they appear to have limited experience of equity markets and refer to wanting 'to buy THE index'. At least holding for the long term is the right mentality, but should this be done within a limited company?Looking to invest a modest 6-figure sum and hold for the long term.
Perhaps I'm wrong.

I think you are being harsh on the OP. He may not have specified exactly where he wants to invest in the opening post, but I thought the intention was quite clear.
There was another thread on this very recently OP.
ETA - Just looked for the other thread and cant find it - I commented on it at the time. Might have been deleted for reasons unknown.

Happy to admit to being wrong, but i would have expected that a limited company with 6 figures to 'invest', would have significant governance and technical support that would avoid needing to ask the question on a car forum! There was another thread on this very recently OP.

I may be a few years out the game but the first 2 years of my career were in the investment banking division at a bulge bracket bank after 3yrs at business school. My friends are all still in finance and I can argue a view with the best of them! Unfortunately they deal in hundreds of millions not thousands, so can't help me with what I want to do. Hence I thought I'd ask on the little hub of knowledge we call PistonHeads.Perhaps I'm wrong.

You do not need to worry about the investment, the funds are spare retained profit which are sitting idly in my holding company (a ltd company that takes divis from my trading co), but I appreciate you trying to make sure I don't make a mistake. This is a very long term, 30yr+ investment and I believe now is a good time to get in for many reasons, this is a position that will grow over the years.
For now I just need to figure out how to get set up and actually make the trade using my ltd company.
Would the company’s articles, or insurance, permit it?
Is it using the flat rate VAT scheme?
People trade with the company based on what the company says it does, is sounds like a significant change to the risks associated with he business.
Talk to your accountant before you dig yourself a hole.

Hi OP
I think you're looking for a broker who provides a "corporate" account?

Out of interest - why would Insurance permit/forbid it? Is it using the flat rate VAT scheme?

Assuming OP isn't going to beat anybody up with rolled-up share certificates I'm not sure what insurable risks are involved from investing?

I certainly agree that it's a good time to invest for the long term. Hope you can find what you need.
