Hi

Etihad has cancelled our flights this weekend due to COVID-19. They are not willing to provide a refund just for us to rebook before 20 June or a coupon.

The flights cost £6k for the whole family and we would obviously prefer a refund as we have no idea when we will be able to travel again either due to continuing COVID restrictions or diary commitments.

We paid for the flights on AMEX at the time for the points so does that make the flights eligible for a Section 75 application?

We are also exploring our travel insurance but it looks as though the total compensation under the travel insurance for airline cancellation is limited to less than the £6K cost of the flights.

Thanks - Prof

To answer my own question for future readers - AMEX have processed the Section 75 claim

Thats good to know - I'm in a similar position, tried once with airline last week and they said voucher only, spoke to Halifax about CC refund and they said try again with airline, then use insurance :/

Trying again with airline today as I'm pretty sure they're legally obliged to refund a flight they cancel.

That is useful to know.

We had a 3 month travelling trip which we should have been leaving for tomorrow. Some airlines have offered refunds without quibbling. Interjet (Mexico) and FrenchBee (French Polynesia) are offering only vouchers at this point.
