Old £20 notes

Just wondering if the bank of england will extend the 6 months on spending/getting shot of the old £20 notes as you cant go out and spend them??

I don't think the BOE have even published a date for withdrawal yet, so I think you'll have plenty of time.

Isn't the advice use a card if possible? People still taking cash afaik.

There will be 6 months notice of the date, that's they way it works.

Last year when sorting out our loft we found £35 worth of old (30 year plus) £5 notes, the bank happily exchanged them for face value.

You did well there then, I tried to exchange the very last of the paper £10 notes (before they went polymer) just after the cutoff date and the bank refused and it wasn't a refusal because they didn't know me from Adam, I go in a fair bit and they have done me favours at other times.

I thought a bank could not refuse them as they are marked Bank of England and had to accept any age note for face value.

The cut off is for them to be accepted for payment.

The BoE will still honor their value, you can still deposit them into an account after that cut off.

Bank of England will honour forever but not a high street bank.

That's unlucky! Which bank? I swapped some paper ten pound notes a month or so ago. Halifax I think.

I'm sure there is a list of places that will swap, I think the post office is on it. As said though, Bank of England will honour any note, I presume back to ones issued in 1694!

There is no withdrawal date for paper £20s as of yet.

I expect it will be well into this winter if not early 2021.

Still very few new £20s in circulation IIRC.

Santander was the bank that refused, might have a go in the post office.

I put some old £10 notes via the pay- in machine at my bank and they where accepted.
