Tax Question

Hi,

I am not very good on tax but I have had a letter which shows I owe £3k for 2018-19. The letter itself has me down as paying 40% tax but I only picked up about £37k that year?

I got about £55k this year so have paid a bit at 40% as expected but they are now staying I owe them nearly £3k for 2018/19!

The car tax benefit sounds wrong as well it was a DS5 2.0 HDI prestige. I had it for 10 months of the tax year (went back on 7th Jan 2019) so at 20% that should be about £6,850?

Any help appreciated?

Just done some figures:

Basic Wage £36,916
Company Car £6,850
Medical Insurance £1,144
Total = £44,910.33

This suggests £6.2k of tax which is what I paid?

Looks like they made a mistake.

Your taxable income is covered by the 20% basic rate band as it's below £34,500:



I would call and question them over it.
