Hi all
Short story - I have decided to take the 3 month mortgage holiday that has been offered around. I'm not currently desperate or struggling as such to make the payment.
However I am probably a little paranoid which is how the decision has come about. Future payment will be less than £10-15 extra according to the calculators.

My 'plan' is to put the non payment into a saving account. In my mind the way I see it is in 3 months time if there is potentially no work to go back to, I have made myself a little backup fund which would allow me 2 months out of work whilst still being able to pay the bills.

The reality 'hopefully' is that everything goes back to normal. I've only just started reading horror stories regarding when it comes to remortgaging and only being offered a deal from the current lender due to the holiday. Mine being in 4 years time. However could using the fund at the end of the 3 months to overpay offset this black mark or would the general best bet be to not take the payment holiday. First payment holiday being on the 5th May.
What is the general consensus regarding payment holidays.

Thanks for any advice

I've taken the holiday now too on the same basis. I don't 'need' it now but who knows if I'll need the cash later, I'm going to effectively still 'pay' the mortgage by just keeping the payments to one side and if I get made redundant etc. then at least I've got a 3 month buffer which might not be on offer so readily at that point.

1 in 9 have taken the holiday as of 14 April so, herd mentality is that it shouldn't be of significance in the future, especially in 4 years time. These articles should put your mind at ease:
