The RNS is owned and run by London Stock exchange. The punishment for insider trading is up to 7 years in prison, that must keep most people honest wink

How many have suffered this punishment?

I'd guess not many if any

Do a search, usually every few years there are publicised examples that act as deterrents. I know of someone who did 5 years in prison for investment related fraud in the late 90s.

...but yeah, not that many in the big scheme of things: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/f...

There's a big computer system that watches for "suspicious trades" and has very little difficulty finding them.

Remember that both tipper and tippee are guilty of the offence.

The LSE runs the RNS system. It is on physically isolated machinery. The team that handles the releases have physically separated offices at the LSE with access controls and auditing etc. It's essentially run like a corporate finance dept at a bank. It's subject to the same sort of insider trading laws, as above.

Can you make it entirely secure ? No, just like you can't make deals completely leakproof. Can you spot leaks after the fact and trace them back and send people to jail ? Yes, no problem. Does the US SEC on the whole make a much better job of this than the FCA ? The stats don't lie.

Not sure what they are doing through lockdown. I suspect they still had to go in, hard to maintain the security aspect otherwise.
