Tax refund - can't do online or phone
Discussion
Afternoon all.
For the first time in a long time I am due a very small refund from HMRC. Followed the instructions and confirm everything but I just get:
"Online refunds are not available at the moment
We’re sorry but we currently are unable to process your repayments either online or on the phone. We will keep this message updated to let you know when you can claim."
Assume this is just another victim of covid and limited resources etc. ? It's not a lot of cash but i'd quite like it in my account rather than theirs.

last year was the 1st time I bothered to sign up and get the payment processed online,
previous years I just ignored the letter and they eventually send a cheque through the post. ( usually about 2 months after I receive the refund letter)
If you can't do it online I suppose you'll have to wait for the cheque to arrive.

Fair enough. It's a paltry amount but I'll hang off. last year was the 1st time I bothered to sign up and get the payment processed online,

I was sent a cheque refund from HMRC after an online application after only a few days. I lost the cheque immediately in the chaos of house renovations and tried to contact them to ask for another, phone line was dead. My wife got through by phoning the Covid helpline, got straight through and then transferred to right department so she handed me the phone. New cheque on its way...in ‘up to 6 weeks’.
I just know I will find the old cancelled cheque before the new one turns up.
So yeah, if you want to get anything done now, Covid.

Off topic but I'm currently battling Virgin Atlantic for several thousand pounds and they are also being evasive on the back of covid. I just know I will find the old cancelled cheque before the new one turns up.
