A small, foundry I used to work for, used 40 tonnes of Nickel per week. It was volatile and not worth speculating on. Yes, you 'could' win big but equally you could lose big too in quite a short space of time with little rhyme or reason until after the event. We had escalators in place with customers to protect the business but based in US dollars which also was a bit fraught too.
Mines in Canada would go on strike, Russia would manipulate prices by with holding or releasing huge quantities of stock, China would suddenly go on building sprees buying loads then crashing out again. Very difficult even when you had 'experts' tracking it.
Same for chromium, manganese, tantalum IME

How do you know my knowledge is limited? As a scrap metal dealer i would think i have a bit of a better idea than yourself?? I was just seeing what the thoughts on here might be. eldar said:

Having worked in the stainless steel industry for a number of years we are constantly tracking Ni increases / decreases. It’s such a volatile thing to speculate on, personally I would never put my money on Ni. Much safer options (usually anyway!).

king piss taking prick! We have taken a punt and bought 25 ton of pure material as we are moving into the stainless market a lot more now. We did have a good deal with so i think we should be ok, but as you have pointed out its a crystal ball job. Thanks anyway.
