Paying dad's cheque into my account

Dad's not able to get to a bank so I'm needing to pay his tax rebate cheque into my account for him and then transfer the money.
What's the best way to do this? He's signed the back of the cheque thinking that's all that's needed but I can't see that being all that's required for the bank to accept.
Any ideas/experience before I waste a journey?

If you use Santander, you can scan a cheque and deposit at their cash machines. Other banks may be the same: https://www.santander.co.uk/personal/support/ways-...
)Another vote for the PO here. I used it recently as the amount was too much for the app. You just tell them which bank it's going into and they give you an envelope for that bank. You write the required info (account number and sort code if I remember rightly) on the cheque and the envelope, bob the cheque in the envelope, hand it over and job done!
I always pay cheques into the ATM outside the bank. But you would need his card and PIN for that option.
It's quite exciting as the machine pops out an envelope and starts beeping and flashing at you in a most alarming manner whilst you have to quickly get the cheque in the envelope, seal it down and get it in the slot before it times out. I like to pretend I'm in the crystal maze.

My bank's local branch is not easy to park nearby so I use the Post Office cheque service. My bank supplies me with special envelopes and when I need to deposit any cheques I fill in the bank's paying in slip, and place it and the cheques in the special envelope, complete my bank details on the outside of the envelope, then go to the PO (easy parking!) and leave it up to them to process. Simple! Been doing this for years.R.
Dear me, banking never used to be this difficult. If you really can't get to a branch I'd post the cheque to them with a completed paying-in slip and covering letter, job done.
