Tax Refunds - Time taken to be paid?

I applied for a tax refund relating to tax relief on business miles across several tax years. This relates to personal tax.

My tax is up to date, and while I did owe some tax in respect of child benefit overpayment, this was paid in January this year.

After a bit of backwards and forwards, everything was agreed in May, but I still haven't had the refund. I've queried it several times and keep being told wait another month.

Now 5 months later, I am increasingly brassed off about this, as I am due around £3k.

Anyone any ideas?

I recently had a SA refund, it took a couple of days from me requesting it.

I have been waiting 5 years for one. I have now taken it to court and their lawyers are not wanting this to go before a judge.

HMRC have never given a single valid reason for this delay. They apply their "guidance rules" rather than the actual law.

Interest (at their rates) on it is building up very well though!

First time I requested a mileage refund, I had the same experience. This time however, HMRC made me claim on a tax return for 1 year and by letter for the other three!
