Morning all.. apart from getting professional advice (which I will if I go ahead) I'm just trying to figure out the potential CGT liability should I offload a rental property I have. The difficulty I'm having is the property was bought in stages:

2000-2010: 50% owned (and financed) by myself
2010-2020: 100% owned by myself.

PPR from 2000-2005, rented from 2005-date.

Ignoring costs, do I do it as two sums:

First: CGT liability from 2000-2010 - just on my half including PPR allowances.
Second: CGT liability from 2010-2020 - using the purchase price as the value of the property when I purchased the second half as my input?

Or, as I suspect is it more complicated?

Just add up the separate amounts you expended on acquiring the property over the period you have been involved with it. That will give you the basic acquisition cost. The fact that you bought it in installments dosn't make much difference.

In the past there was an issue with timing of expenditure when there were such things as Indexation or Taper Relief but neither exist any more.
