About 20 years ago I took out a life policy to run for 10yrs
I think it was around £16pcm for around £250k

I was looking at a old bank account that holds money and noticed I’m still paying the £16pcm
Does this mean the insuance is still ongoing, do I get refund ? Is it now calculated at a reduced rate.

I’m really not sure ? I can tell it’s legal and general by the DD.

The insurance may have kept running after the 10 years - give L&G a ring or look at your policy documents.

Not answering the question, but I'm always staggered by things like this. Anyone who can pay £16/month for 10 years (£1920) and not notice is clearly an entirely different species to me.

Same. Sometimes I think I'm a bit anal about these things, checking every transaction on my bank and credit card statements to confirm I recognise it/know what it is, but then I read stories like this and just think "how?!"

I'm sure it drives my other half up the wall asking him every weekend what the £2.49 to Apple was for or the 66p to some other unknown merchant... but at least I'll never be caught with an unrecognised DD for years!

Yup, end of each month, I go thru every transaction and check every direct debit, and reconcile my accounts, literally to the penny. Takes me about an hour, but no one is getting 16p a month out of me I don't know about, let alone £16 a month for 10 years.
