Has anyone else seen this story ? I've seen it posted a few places but here is the Reddit link

https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/k...

Alarming increase of the level of US debt to 129% of GDP also

https://www.usdebtclock.org/

So what are the thoughts on this and the effect this will have in the future ?

That is a little disingenuous, he added the most in actual dollar terms, but as a percentage and allowing for inflation he is fifth.

FDR added the most, no surprise really.

Obama added more US debt than all President's before him combined.

US is in the deep deep poo
Aside from this being, at the very least, significantly oversimplified and misleading, it's rather important to bear in mind that Obama inherited the worst financial circumstances since the Great Depression. The recovery under his administration was a massive success story.

is it any worse than the UK taking 300 years to get into 1 trillion debt, 10 years to double it and on target to add another trillion in a few years...

Nothing to do with money, but we take as many photos, across the world, every 30 seconds, as we took in the entire 19th & 20th centuries.

I'm not making a political point.

The US now spends way more than it receives in income. With ever more to come.

It's unsustainable.
But surely all Pelosi and her cronies have to do is plant some more money trees. biggrin

Au contraire, if there is one thing recent history tells us it's that the Dems seem to be a lot more careful with the economy...

As you know, I wasn't referring to anything from that link, but having had a quick skim through, there is an awful lot of good stuff in there, do you agree?

Still small fry when you consider who owns the majority.
US institutional investors.
I’m sure as a US citizen you’d be happy for the fed to buy as many as they need to keep the price high... ultimate debasement when the fed owns them all hehe

China unloading the most iirc?

35% in 10 months.

It’s almost like covid19 has been the perfect patsy for the biggest economic bailout ever.

Inflation or deflation, that is the big question.

I think it is the fed taking most of the newly issued ones isn’t it? Same here in the Uk: get the new money out, think about selling the bonds on later

I've been saying this from more or less day one... covid has been a gift from heaven for the money printers, the debt pushers, the asset price inflators, basically the treasuries and central banks of the world who want to paper over the cracks of what were already their failed economies even before covid came along.

I know it’s a cliche, but this really is late stage capitalism. I can’t see the younger generations in Western nations, who are currently being totally disenfranchised, putting up with the status quo for much longer. If the system doesn’t change, we’re inviting revolution.

The GOP have done a fantastic job in covering their damage and persuading people the Dems are bad for them. Do big tax cuts, pile on a load of debt to the country, and then when the Dems get into power absolutely slate them for spending on people as "we can't afford it". In reality as you say the tax cuts are far worse as it's providing huge amounts of free money for the feckless and workshy people at the top.

The Bank of England now owns around 50% of U.K. gilts issued.

On a NAV basis, we are therefore in a much better position than many.

Bit like bitcoin and tether. At one point a few years back every real dollar was worth 10 tethers, used to inflate btc price by buying them. 1 billion in one day printed of tethers, of real capital money of about 100 million usd.
