For a higher rate taxpayer:
Pension contributions via salary sacrifice
No further tax refund up to highest rate can be claimed via a tax return
Workplace Pension (Net contribution before tax)
No further tax refund up to highest rate can be claimed via a tax return

If you make contributions via salary sacrifce then no tax has ever been deducted, so there is nothing to claim back.For a higher rate taxpayer:

With any other form of pension contributions (including net workplace ones) then your pension provider will recalim the basic rate of tax and you can reclaim the higher rate via your tax return.
