Used up my allowance in this years ISA so I started a general account.

Does anybody know, if when April comes can I switch £20k worth of funds from the General account to the ISA account?

Or do I have to sell and then go in the ISA with cash?

Typically sell and buy, called "bed and ISA". Vanguard may have an automated way of doing it.

Other than some HMRC recognised SAYE schemes, the only way to get new money in to an ISA is by transferring in cash. As mentioned most brokers will offer a bed 'n' ISA scheme which would only involve one dealing fee rather than two for a sell and then buy (if a fee is chargeable).

Don't forget if you cash out from your GIA you may create a CCT Triggering Event.
