Seems to be having a remarkably good run at the moment which I find surprising given all the doom and gloom around at the moment.

Any informed suggestions as to why this might be?

Yup, also why Houses and Crypto are going crazy too. All of that money has got to go somewhere, no point putting it in the bank.

Also, remember stock markets are barometers of the future, not of the present.

And of course, they're not always the most accurate of said barometers smile

Prices do seem to have risen, I sold my Lloyds & Greggs shares today as they had been sat at the same price for quite some time, then noticed today they had risen. They will probably go higher now I've sold but the return I've got from them over a short term investment is quite reasonable. Now to put that money somewhere else.

Plenty of companies are benefiting from changes over the past year, or at least not losing out. These are generally the biggest companies on the market eg. tech, retail, comms and financials that drive most of the returns. They have business models that can be scaled up and down relatively easily.

Aside from transport and oil, the main losers are smaller businesses eg. pubs, restaurants, sports, cinema and theatre which are not reflected in the stock market to a material degree.

Some of the recent returns seem to have been driven by positive sentiment on the future due to the vaccine, Brexit trade deal and the US election.

The FTSE 100 is up 3.5% today but it's still down 10%+ from a year ago.
