After reviewing my NI record online with HMRC there are a couple of years where the years are not full - it was around the time I'd switched jobs so I'm the shortfall sits with the few months being unemployed.
The missing figures are not significant - literally £60 for each of the 2 years so I'm keen to just pay and wrap them up as 2 more years of full contributions for the extra £10 a week of state pension.
I've been abroad for a number of years and may do so again in the future so getting as many contributions in while I can is important as I'm not 100% confident on hitting the full 35.
However, HMRC site is exactly as expected. I see the calculated missing figures, I can find details on where to send the ££, but I cannot see any way of associating a payment with a reference number etc.
Has anyone done this in the past? Or am I facing an x hour call with HMRC?

I've done this recently & it was very easy & I wasn't on hold too long. The phone number I used was 0300 200 3500 (I think - it may have been 0800 731 0175 but that's unlikley) & the very helpful person on the other end will take your NI number, the years you are contributing towards & the amount & generate a unique 18 digit reference number & give you the account number & sort code to use. As long as you use the reference number when making the transfer it should end up on your record, but it can take a couple of months to show up.

Thank you Mr P! That had to be one of the least painful HMRC experiences I've had - nothing to do with voluntarily giving them money I'm sure...
