Google Pay

Hi, I've been using Google Pay on my phone for over a year now and rarely carry a wallet these days because of this.
Normally small amounts £20-£30 ish.
However I tried to buy fuel yesterday approximately £70 and my payment was declined?
Obviously I had funds in my account.
I bank with the Halifax.
The Petrol station was a Sainsburys and they tell me they have no limit on Contactless. (GP Or AP).
I filled out a form and went back later in the day to settle.
More hassle than embarrassment.
I've checked the app and can't find a limit setting?
I have not yet rang my Bank.
Would anyone know what I'm missing here.

not sure why it didn't go through.
it's worth adding additional cards onto your google pay as a backup, you just swipe to the card you want to use.

The contactless limit is £45 but will be raising to £100 soon.

Assuming you have not tried this method before, then it may be the bank that your google pay account is linked to enforcing this rather than the retailer.

Two comments, both leaving me no further educated.
Well, KTF probably, but not certain yet.
The Garage insisted there was no limit. I mean who could fill any car for £45? So that makes sense.
Putting more cards onto Google pay would still have a limit problem.
I'm guessing the problem lies with my Bank.
Hopefully this will fix itself in April when Contactless goes to £100.
However still no real answer yet.

To protect you from fraud, we may restrict the value or number of payments you can make using Google Pay, so please make sure you carry your debit and credit cards with you just in case. Some retailers will also limit individual payments to £45.

Yes I've looked at their website.
It doesn't actually tell you anything though.
We may, they could etc.
Why can't they just print the facts how they are?
I appreciate I need to speak to my Bank.

GP and AP are NOT the same as Contactless.

When it was simple, contactless was £45 (with a PIN trigger at around £100-120 of cumulative spend)

GP limit was up to the bank, but around £25k.

Some retailers (looking at you Tesco) unilaterally limited the GP and AP spend to the same as Contactless. No idea why.

I've just now found in the Halifax small print.
£45 limit.
I hope this will change in April (£100 limit).
I haven't used cash for a year, only what I had leftover in my wallet when it all started 12 months ago.
Phones Rule (almost) in my world!

....was stuck behind someone In waitrose a couple weeks ago with his phone to pay.....and it ran out of battery . Of course , this new age fool ( a 30 to 40 something at a guess so no excuse ) was wandering the earth without any backup plan like a wallet with even one card .
To add to the oddity of the situation, he was definitely taking on a slight air of ...the problem was now part of the worries of the checkout girl who was being helpful trying to find a iphone lead to plug in idiots phone. wasn't even on his own ...had young "Chloe " and "ollie" in tow .
