I’ve been investing a set sum each month into an S&P500 EFT (SPDR SPY) for a while now. I’ve noticed that each buy shows as a non-leveraged CFD. A little bit of time spent on Google taught me that EU retail investors can’t invest in US ETFs directly for regulatory reasons – PRIIPS.
Because of this brokers offer a CFDs on US EFTs to work around the issue. The obvious downside here is that I don’t own the underlying asset, so I get the extra risk of the brokers stability.
Are there any other downsides that I am missing?
I’ve also discovered EU registered US ETF equivalents such as SPY5, but can’t see much detail on them, and want to know if they will perfectly track the S&P500 – it cant be straight forward because of the market opening times.

Any ideas how I can get access to US EFTs or a direct copy of them, whilst owning the asset?
