I’ve advertised an iPhone for my son on Gumtree. My phone and email inbox have lit up with enquirers, all of whom have vanished when I have pointed out that I don’t take PayPal.

They will all be scammers I am quite sure.

Surely it must be in PayPal’s interests to sort out their reputation?

No idea why you'd think Paypal = scammers.

It's an incredibly convenient payment method with excellent buyer protection. As a buyer, I'd be very wary of a seller who didn't want to take Paypal.

More than likely the reason they dissapear, is that they think you are trying to scam them.

Unless your planning on picking the phone up in person and paying cash, then you have no protection if you send the money and the phone never turns up or is broken.

And most people that are trying to Scam others, usually want paying via a bank transfer, or friends and family in Paypal.

Well my gumtree account is as old as Gumtree, I have business ads on there and I state that I would prefer cash on collection. So I doubt that most reasonable people would think I am a scammer.

Just had another whilst I was typing that. From a chap with a rating of five one star reviews.
