Self employed 4th grant
Discussion
I can’t get this one because last year I had one-off income (year’s of estate income that had built up and given in one go) larger than my earnings in a year where my earnings were probably way lower due to Covid.
Bit of a bummer as I got the last ones as they were based on previous years, in which, had that other income been spread out, would have been ok.

Wish I got some of this free money, must be pretty sweet.

Her taxes are going to go up. So are mine. If she is entitled to it and is going to pay the extra tax in the same way as people who have been funded for the last 12 months, then why shouldn't she claim it? More than likely it will be used to put money back into the economy by employing a local guy to do some work on the house or garden
A friend of mine has claimed this 4th grant and is using it to pay the tax he owes from his 20/21 tax return, he gets 20% deducted and always gets a rebate but as he claimed the first 3 grants he now owes the taxman money, will most likely be a lot more in this same position once they do their accounts

A lot of difficult issues ahead. Why give money to businesses that can’t pay it back? Or at the very least will find it monumentally hard to. I got an email directing me to some webinar thing that all the places were taken up on so couldn’t sign up? No follow up giving me a date to claim the 4th SEISS grant yet. I’m looking at my income for this year very carefully so may choose not to claim this one as it may cost me more than it’s worth.

They don’t have to pay it back, just recognise it as (free) income and you have to pay tax on it just like all the income you actually have to go out and work for.Mikebentley said:

That makes no sense to me. Even if it pushes you into the next tax bracket you only pay the higher rate on profits above the threshold, how could it cost you more than they give you?Gassing Station | Finance | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
