I know nothing about economics/finance and I think it’s about time I learned about it.

Would somebody be able to care on end and Idiot’s guide type thing to easily understand on a global scale?

As some good general background reading:

Freakonomics
The undercover economist
This time is different
The rise and fall of the great powers
The greatest trade ever
Liar's poker
Flash boys
Dark pools

Big range of different topics there but all quite enjoyable to the lay reader imo and give insight into various aspects of economics/trading/investment.

Thanks so much for those recommendations. Unfortunately I don’t have time time to read all that. Which one of those would be best do you think?

Big difference between economics and the way financial markets work. The former formally is how people assess and interact with/manage value, and is to an extent about human behaviour.

Very different to a discussion of value vs growth shares, bonds vs equities, RoCE, P/E ratios that are related to the latter.

Which is it you want?

I’d to know how world finance functions, it’s structure/architecture and basic interactions on a global and local, macro/micro scale. I don’t know enough to be able to specify better than that.

Everything is clearly based on the manipulation and movement of money (well that snd sex I suppose ??) and I’d like to know how it works (money not sex, well saying that...)

BTW it was obviously « recommend a book » in my initial post ( bloody autocorrect)

Who needs a book when you've got Wikipedia at your finger tips. For instance, an excellent starting point,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_financial_sys...

And as additional resource, especially useful in the context of "jargon busting", Investopedia is excellent,

Remember; there are no stupid questions. What counts is to be asking the questions and looking for answers. The great thing about PH finance forum is there's a mass of knowledge and experience available from people who, generally, have some knowledge and aren't trying to confuse and obfuscate!

A significant proportion of the financial services industry makes its living out of the natural laziness of human beings ("clients") and making things look more difficult than they really are - "baffling clients with jargon and then sweeping in as their saviour", for a generous fee.

I'd also recommend a book called 'The Divide' by Jason Hickel. Interesting read on how the World bank, IMF and rich vs poor economies works (or doesn't work)

e.g.: UK sending Aid to poor countries is a con, we get back more in interest payments on decades old loans than we send them in aid every year.
