Hey!
I ordered an iPhone 26th November 2018.
The deal was £36.00 per month.
The order was delayed due to a backlog of orders as a result of their Black Friday Deals.
I requested a change to my order and asked for a White Model instead. I was assured this would be processed.
The phone was delayed.
I finally received the phone on Saturday 1st December (it should have been next day delivery).
The phone failed to connect to the Vodafone network. I placed a call to mobiles.co.uk every working day until 12th December when I requested a refund and asked to return the phone to mobiles.co.uk.
I was assured this would not be a problem. I returned the phone on the 12th December and had confirmation that mobiles.co.uk received the phone on Friday 14th November 2018.

Since then, I received a bill from Vodafone for £72. I contacted Vodafone as I no longer have this phone or sim card and the deal I had signed up for was only for £36.00 per month. Vodafone told me I would have to contact mobiles.co.uk which I did. They assured me that the contract had been cancelled. I assumed this was the case as I did not hear from Vodafone again.

In February 2019 I have been contacted by Zinc Group on behalf of Vodafone with regards to the outstanding bill. When contacting Zinc they could not assist me as they have a different Date of Birth on their record and said they could not confirm my identity.

I am currently looking to buy a new car and was refused finance. When I have looked into my credit score, it looks like the debt has been passed on to Lowell for a payment of £151. They are stating that a sim card contract in my name, with my address was started on 31st December 2018 and has racked up a bill of £151. I never received nor have used a vodafone sim card and I am unsure how i can prove this in order to have this mistake on Vodafone's part removed from my credit file - so I can finally buy my new car!!!

Any help and advice with regards to how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Emma

Does the default appear in your file from Vodafone or mobiles.co.uk?

Ignore the above, hogwash. There's nothing to be learned, the actions taken were appropriate at the time.

I would recommend contacting Lowell and asking them to firstly freeze the claim as it's in dispute and then request who to take your case further with. I would want to understand who has sanctioned the debt and how they've come up with that figure - You may know the answer already but at least you may get passed to the person who can make it go away.

Not suggesting you have, but ensure you maintain calm when dealing with them - I'm sure they're used to whingers, but by the sounds of the way you describe I can't see what you've done wrong.

It depends on whether the debt has been sold to Lowell, or is just passed to Lowell and Vodafone are the ones chasing. Sounds like it has been sold, otherwise the CRA reference would not be in Lowells name. This is important as it dictates to whom you complain.

Debt purchase agreements generally have buy back provisions in case of complaints, or disputed debts. Your best course of action is to set out a complaint / dispute saying that you do not owe this debt because you did not receive the service. It sounds like you have kept decent evidence on dates & correspondence so put that in. Eventually they should agree that the debt didn't exist, Vodafone will buy the debt back and clean up the credit reference (via Lowell).

Paying it off won't help - it will still be on your credit history giving off the odour of the uncreditworthy.

Sounds about right. Mobiles.co.Uk didn’t deal with the cancellation on your behalf and you have 2 months of payment from the network provider for the pro-rata usage.

You’ll struggle to get this resolved, I’d just pay it so it doesn’t show as a default.

It will still show as a default, albeit satisfied which is no better. Prior advice is correct. Vodafone need lowell to remove.

Writing tends to be more effective than calling in my experience.
