Just looking for ideas as I am no expert !!

If you had pension (max), VCT's, premium bonds, buy to lets (waste of time now !!) what would you invest in next to get a return on ?

Any ideas would be very greatfully received.

Oh, I don't know.....with over £1M in pensions, £xxx, xxx? in VCTs, presumably £50-100K (single or couple?) in PBs, *and* property.....I'd say you've won the game!
You haven't mentioned ISAs - 20k pa should go into a decent S&S ISA.

Maybe raise some funds for a charitable cause?
Or invest in a business to support a friend or family. If you have no-one you could help, then perhaps https://www.careinternational.org.uk/get-involved/...

Spend it.

Sounds like your future is taken care of.

Private medical cover may be worth taking out (if not already) depending on your age.

I'd have thought ISA before VCT to be honest - https://www.finumus.com/blog/vcts-are-a-device-for...

If you're careful managing CGT and dividend allowances, the tax impact of up to about £100K in a taxable account can be kept pretty low.

Dropping the max £20k into an S&S isa each year (probably into something low effort/low fee like tracker funds) would be my next choice.

Anything left over I would drop into something high risk/high reward like crypto, big bet stocks - but obviously manage your risk!

I'd go fun investments. Classic cars, watches, etc

Maybe look at some inheritance friendly ones, like woodland (I think it is?).

As Mark Twain once said (allegedly): “buy land - they aren’t making any more of it!”

Sound advice. There comes a point where some people focus so much on trying to make more money they forget to spend and enjoy it. And often when they do, they're too old!

Buy a bar, don’t run it just frequent it and bath in the smug satisfaction that you own a bar with your chump change.

If you dont have ISAs I think you really must fill that as its tax free and at your level of investing tax management come draw down is going to be a problem so anything tax free will help.

peer to peer lending or commercial ground rents

Yields on the former are around 8% to 12% and on commercial ground rents 6% real return

Relendex has done OK for me over the past 4 years, through their ISA. Out of 35 P2P loans, 31 have been repaid with full interest. Three should conclude later this year while one is facing a 10-20% capital loss. That said, particularly over the past year, many have gone beyond their contractual redemption dates but interest continues to accrue, sometimes at a penalty rate. Past forms no reliable guide to the future, though!

By co-incidence, after posting the above, I received the following email from Relendex late this afternoon regarding what is my oldest and by far my biggest loan - in my innocence when first lending I hadn't realised people tended to commit only small amounts so as to build up a well-diversified loan portfolio. Anyway, a positive outcome after some slightly stressful moments:-

''London & Liverpool Mixed Use Bridging Loan

We are delighted to advise you that Relendex has received the much delayed repayment of this loan together with all interest and default interest.

Lenders' accounts will be credited tomorrow, Friday 6th August 2021.

The London and Liverpool Loan is a prime example of how Relendex works carefully with borrowers to ensure that when difficulties arise they are fully supported whilst at the same time delivering excellent returns to our lenders.

In this instance the borrower runs a successful medical practice that was overwhelmed by its Covid related workload. Whilst the borrower ensured that he could deliver vital health services, Relendex closely collaborated with the borrower’s financial broker to ensure that your capital was protected and that default interest could be covered in full. This required a protracted refinance process.

The end result is that the borrower retained ownership of the properties and our lenders have received a return averaging 10.8% per annum over the life of the loan.

Relendex currently has an A+ graded loan live on our platform (Bedminster (East Street) Residential Development) and a further A+ graded loan (Hammersmith (Iffley Road) Residential Development) is due go live shortly.''

Offshore is worth considering if you have used up all available tax wrappers and want to lock up £250k+ for 10+ years.
